Transportation in Prague

Prague’s Ruzyně International Airport is situated about 16 km north-west of the centre of the city. Travel time between the centre and the airport terminal is 25-40 minutes by taxi or airport shuttle, 40-60 minutes by public transport (underground “A” to Dejvická and city bus “119” or underground B to Zličín and city bus “100”).
Complete information about transportation from/to the airport can be found at http://www.prg.aero/.

Underground, trams and some public buses are the quickest, cheapest and most efficient way how to get through the city centre. Complete information about Prague public transport can be found at http://www.dpp.cz/en/.

In case you decide to use taxi, it is advisable to ask for  a car from a reputable operator like AAA (tel. 14014), ProfiTaxi (tel. 14015) or Halo (tel. 244114411) a not stop/ask a taxi driver in the street. The price limit given by city authorities is CZK 40 fixed charge, plus CZK 28 per kilometer, plus an additional charge for waiting time.

Prague is relatively safe from the point of view of crime and you need not be worried on the streets or on public transportation. The only “hot spot” in the centre is the park in front of the Main Railway Station at night. On the other hand, be aware of pickpockets, especially on the main tourist routes (Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square and adjacent streets), and also in trams and on the underground.

Transport to conference venue

The main building of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague is located in the centre of Prague at the embankment of Vltava River between Mánesův most (Mánes Bridge) and Čechův most (Čech Bridge). The entrance is on Břehová Street 7, in a short part of this street between the embankment and the 17. listopadu Street. The nearest underground station is Staroměstská (line A). Leaving the vestibule of the station in direction of Náměstí Jana Palacha (Jan Palach Square), you then turn right along the tram lines parallel with the river, after about 150 m the Faculty building is on the left.

Tram and bus connection: tram line No. 17 to Právnická fakulta (the nearest stop) or No. 18 to Staroměstská, bus line No 133 to Právnická fakulta. It is not recommendable to use your own car for getting to the centre; there are traffic jams and extreme difficulties to find a parking lot. Street level parking needs a special permit (only for residents and local business) or are expensive, underground parking usually has space, but is even more expensive (under the Náměstí Jana Palacha).
